Risers and Fallers College Football Team Talent

Posted on August 11, 2019August 11, 2019 by Tyler Turner

Here I compare my 2019 Team Talent Formula to 2018 Team Talent Composite by 247 Sports. There was several teams who have increased their talent significantly and others that have lost a lot of talent.

Risers

Oregon (25 to 18)- Significant increase in talent for the Ducks. They went from under 20 blue chip players to 32 and five top 100 prospects to Ten. A top 10 recruiting class made their leap in talent maybe the most impressive in College Football.

Texas A&M (16 to 11)- Jimbo Fisher spent very little time to improve his roster. He landed a top 5 class in 2018 and subsequently the class went into the Top 15 in overall talent. Vitally important in tough SEC.

Penn State (13 to 9)-James Franklin has done a lot to improve Penn State’s roster over the last several years. Back in the initial Team Talent Composite in 2015 Penn State was outside top 20 and now they are inside top 10. Impressive recruiting in Happy Valley.

Oklahoma (11 to 6)-Three consecutive top 10 classes will increase your talent and that is what Oklahoma has accomplished. Only a few short years Oklahoma had lost steam on recruiting trail but 4 consecutive Big 12 titles has impacted recruiting and now their talent is up there at the top.

Fallers

Michigan (8 to 15)–While Harbaugh has done well on recruiting trail early NFL departures, transfer of blue chip prospects, and a subpar 2018 class (#21) impacted their score in my formula. Still a lot of talent but sometimes other teams just increase their talent.

UCLA (19 to 23)- Only a few short years ago UCLA had top 15 talent but lackluster recruiting (#40 in 2019) and a plethora of high end transfers has dropped them to the edge of my top 25.

Ole Miss (22 to 25)- unfortunately probation tends to effect recruiting and Ole Miss has felt that on the trail. The big losses came by way of transfers along with some early NFL draft entry’s.
