As the 2024–25 NBA regular season concludes Sunday with all 30 teams in action, the Western Conference playoff seeds remain unsettled — though the teams involved are locked in.
What’s Set:
Playoff Teams (Top 6): Confirmed Play-In Teams (7–10): Confirmed Play-In Start: April 15 Playoffs Begin: April 19
Top 3 Seeds (Locked):
No. 1 – Oklahoma City Thunder: Clinched top seed and home-court advantage throughout the West playoffs. No. 2 – Houston Rockets: Will face the No. 7 seed in Round 1. No. 3 – Los Angeles Lakers: Locked into a first-round matchup against the No. 6 seed.
Teams with Uncertain Seeding:
Denver Nuggets: Can finish 4th–6th. Clinch No. 4 with a win over Houston. A loss complicates things and could push them to 5th or 6th depending on other results. Los Angeles Clippers: Can finish 4th, 5th, or 7th. A win secures a top-six seed. They drop to the play-in (No. 7) only if they lose and both Denver and Minnesota win. Minnesota Timberwolves: Could finish 4th–8th. Clinch a top-six seed with a win. A loss drops them to the No. 7 vs. No. 8 play-in. Golden State Warriors: Can land at 6th or 7th. A win (or a Timberwolves loss) puts them in the playoffs. A loss + Minnesota win puts them in the play-in. Memphis Grizzlies: Locked into No. 7 or No. 8 — will play in the first play-in game. Sacramento Kings vs. Dallas Mavericks: Locked into the No. 9 vs. No. 10 play-in game. A Kings win or Mavericks loss gives Sacramento home-court advantage.
Play-In Tournament Schedule
Tuesday (April 15): No. 7 vs. No. 8 Wednesday (April 16): No. 9 vs. No. 10 Friday (April 18): Loser of 7/8 vs. Winner of 9/10 — for the final (No. 8) playoff spot
The seeding drama will unfold Sunday at 3:30 PM ET, when all 15 Western Conference teams tip off Game 82 simultaneously.
