Carlo Ancelotti has officially been named the new head coach of the Brazil national team, becoming the first foreign manager in the nation’s history. The 65-year-old Italian will step down from Real Madrid after their final La Liga match against Real Sociedad, despite having one year left on his contract. His appointment, facilitated by the Brazilian Football Confederation and led by Diego Fernandes, is set through the 2026 World Cup.
Ancelotti will take over from Dorival Junior, who was dismissed in March after a 14-month tenure. His first match in charge will be a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on June 6. One of the most decorated managers in football, Ancelotti is tasked with leading Brazil’s quest for a record sixth World Cup title.
During his second spell with Real Madrid, Ancelotti won two La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies. However, the club fell short this season, exiting the Champions League in the quarterfinals, losing the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona, and trailing in the league title race.
