The Boston Red Sox traded designated hitter Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants for right-hander Jordan Hicks, left-hander Kyle Harrison, and a pair of prospects in outfielder James Tibbs and righty Jose Bello, the teams announced Sunday.
The Red Sox are not retaining any of Devers’ contract, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The slugger has eight years remaining after this season and is owed $254.5 million over that span.
“This is something we really needed,” Giants manager Bob Melvin told Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. “This is a huge move by Zack (Minasian) and Buster (Posey). This fits us perfectly.”
