Arsenal vs Burnley: How the Gunners Can Clinch the 2025-26 Premier League Title

Posted on May 18, 2026May 18, 2026 by Santiago Leon

The Premier League title race is entering its dramatic final stretch, and Arsenal now have destiny in their own hands. After years of near misses and rebuilding under Mikel Arteta, the Gunners are just two matches away from ending a 22-year wait for a league championship.

Arsenal welcome Burnley to the Emirates Stadium on Monday night knowing that victory would put them in a commanding position heading into the season finale.

With two matches remaining, Arsenal sit at the top of the Premier League table with 79 points, narrowly ahead of Manchester City on 77 points. The Gunners have put together an impressive run of form at exactly the right time, winning three straight matches as the pressure of the title race reaches its peak.

Current Premier League Title Race Standings

Arsenal enter the Burnley match with a slim but important advantage over Manchester City:

Arsenal

  • Points: 79
  • Matches Played: 36
  • Wins: 24
  • Goal Difference: +42

Manchester City

  • Points: 77
  • Matches Played: 36
  • Wins: 23
  • Goal Difference: +43

Arsenal’s recent momentum has placed them in control, but every result now carries championship implications.

What Happens if Arsenal Beat Burnley?

A win over Burnley would move Arsenal five points clear at the top of the table and significantly increase their chances of lifting the trophy.

Several scenarios could then unfold:

Scenario 1: Arsenal win and Manchester City fail to beat Bournemouth

If Arsenal defeat Burnley and Manchester City either draw or lose against Bournemouth on Tuesday, Arsenal will officially become Premier League champions.

Scenario 2: Arsenal win and Manchester City also win

If both clubs win, the title race continues to the final day of the season. Arsenal would then need a victory against Crystal Palace to guarantee the title regardless of Manchester City’s result.

Scenario 3: Arsenal win both remaining matches

This is the simplest route.

If Arsenal beat Burnley and Crystal Palace, they become Premier League champions regardless of what Manchester City do.

Mikel Arteta Calls on Emirates Crowd

Arteta has urged supporters to create a special atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium, emphasizing the importance of the home crowd becoming a “12th player” in one of the club’s biggest matches in recent history.

With memories of previous title challenges still fresh, Arsenal now have a chance to finish the job and bring the Premier League trophy back to North London for the first time since the historic Invincibles era.

The next 180 minutes could define an entire generation of Arsenal supporters.
