The San Francisco Giants avoided a sweep against the Washington Nationals with an incredible 11-10 comeback victory on Wednesday, capped by a walk-off grand slam from Bryce Eldridge in the ninth inning.
San Francisco struggled early as pitcher Robbie Ray allowed five earned runs over 5 2/3 innings, while Washington built a dominant 9-1 lead after rough outings from the Giants’ bullpen. Matt Chapman provided a spark with two home runs, and Rafael Devers added a solo shot during a five-run eighth inning that cut the deficit to 9-6.
The Nationals extended their lead to 10-6 in the ninth, but the Giants mounted one final rally. Chapman drove in a run with a double before San Francisco loaded the bases for Eldridge, who blasted a walk-off grand slam to complete the dramatic comeback and secure one of the Giants’ most exciting wins of the season.
The Giants now head into an off day before beginning a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs at Oracle Park.
