Where are the 5 Stars?

Posted on February 17, 2019March 6, 2019 by Tyler Turner

Per my recruting rankings which I broke down in my last article:

Dropping some data on Recruiting at the Sports Cast https://t.co/NIQYhGzwNy

— Tyler Turner of The Sports Cast (@TurnerCast) February 16, 2019

Here are the 5 stars (in parenthesis) per each team in the top 25 of the rankings I composed in the previous article that is attached:

  1. Alabama (12)
  2. Georgia (14)
  3. Ohio state (13)
  4. LSU (7)
  5. USC (5)
  6. Florida state (5)
  7. Texas (4)
  8. Oklahoma (5)
  9. Auburn (3)
  10. Clemson (7)
  11. Texas A&M (2)
  12. Norte Dame (1)
  13. Florida (0)
  14. Penn State (4)
  15. Michigan (4)
  16. Tennessee (3)
  17. Oregon (1)
  18. Miami (1)
  19. South Carolina (1)
  20. Washington (1)
  21. UCLA (3)
  22. Nebraska (0)
  23. Stanford (3)
  24. Ole Miss (2)
  25. Mississippi State (1)

Clearly the top 3 (Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State) dominate with the amount of former 5 stars on their rosters. Those three have 39 combined 5 stars on their respective rosters. Clemson, despite being on the border of the top 10 in regards to average recruiting rankings over the last 5 years, are tied for 4th (with LSU) for number of 5 stars on their roster.

When 247 sports does their team talent composite they take into consideration highest ranked players into their overall metrics which gives a more accurate number for overall team talent. You can have a high recruting ranking while at the same time have an attrition problems on the roster that can bring down your overall team talent. I will in a future article breakdown which teams in top 25 have had the most attrition (transfers, departures, medical retirements, etc.) and ones that have had limited attrition.
