Redskins Name McCoy QB1

The mystery surrounding the quarterback situation for the Washington Redskins has been solved, at least for the preseason. According to NBC Sports, the Redskins posted their first unofficial depth chart this past Sunday. For now, former Texas QB Colt McCoy has been named the starter. Following behind is recently acquired Case Keenum and 1st round draft pick Dwayne Haskins.

Before anyone gets too excited, this is not set in stone. The previously mentioned placement comes as a result of experience. McCoy has the most experience under Gruden’s system and is comfortable running the offense. Keenum has league experience and is quickly picking up the offense. The only taste of the NFL by Haskins comes from recent additions of the famed Madden video games. In other words, per reports, the former Ohio State record setter just doesn’t look ready. For now, it is a two man race. Hopefully, the team, coaches, and playoff-starved fans will trust the process rather that force Dwayne into action prematurely.

At this moment, Colt has made the biggest plays. However, he’s having a hard time shaking the turnover bug. He’s also shown confidence guiding the offense at the line of scrimmage and running checks successfully. All have shown flashes thus far, but there has been no “wow” moments to cement a decision. One has to feel that if there is no clear emergence of a starter, the nod would have to go to McCoy. Time and the preseason will tell. Gruden and company have what appears on paper to be one of the best defenses in the league. Let’s hope we can see an offense that can compliment it.
