In the latest news regarding the coronavirus outbreak, the XFL has announced that the contest involving the LA Wildcats and the Seattle Dragons will be done so without a crowd. The game is set to be played at Century Link Field. The decision is in response to the state of Washington’s recent ban of gatherings involving 250 people or less.

This comes after the recent announcement by the NBA imposing the same ban. The Golden State Warriors are set to play host to the Brooklyn Nets at the Chase Center on Thursday. Not only that, an XFL vendor at Century Link Field was diagnosed with the coronavirus. This happened on February 22nd according to King County health officials. Those same officials released a statement saying the 22,060 in attendance were at a low risk of testing positive for the virus. However, at this point, the league is taking every precaution to protect its fans, players, and personnel. “The health and safety of the entire XFL family is of the utmost importance. We have established a COVID-19 task force and are closely monitoring this public health issue. We are in regular contact with our Medical Advisory Board, as well as health and public safety officials on a national and local basis,” XFL President Jeffrey Pollack said in a recent statement to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Fans holding tickets to this game will either be granted a full refund or credit towards a Dragons’ matchup in 2021. As far as future games, nothing has been announced as of yet. It’s something to keep a close watch on. “We have connected with other professional sports leagues to share information and best practices. Consideration of this input, a fact-based perspective, and our priority for safety will guide our decisions going forward,” Pollack stated.
