San Diego State sent a letter to the Mountain West on Tuesday about its intention to resign from the conference, reports The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel and Chris Vannini.
The letter isn’t an official notice, per Vannini.
The school also asked the Mountain West for a one-month extension to leave the conference “given unforeseen delays involving other collegiate athletic conferences beyond our control,” sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
San Diego State has been linked to the Pac-12 this offseason, but the school reportedly has not yet received an offer from the conference. The Pac-12 is in the process of landing a new TV deal.
