Astros’ Bryan Abreu appeals 2-game suspension

Houston Astros right-handed reliever Bryan Abreu is appealing his two-game suspension for intentionally hitting Texas Rangers slugger Adolis García in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series.

Abreu will be eligible to pitch in the ALCS until the appeal is heard and the suspension is upheld or reduced.

The hurler was suspended two games Saturday after MLB senior vice president of on-field operations Michael Hill said all six Game 5 umpires agreed he intentionally threw at García, which caused both teams’ benches to clear.
