Commanders sign Zach Ertz to 1-year deal

The Washington Commanders are signing free-agent tight end Zach Ertz to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million, a source told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Ertz previously signed with the Detroit Lions’ practice squad after backup tight end Brock Wright suffered a season-ending injury in the divisional round. He never played a snap for the Lions, and the 33-year-old’s contract expired when Detroit’s season ended.

After nine years with the Philadelphia Eagles, Ertz was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in October 2021. He is the Eagles’ franchise leader in receiving yards by a tight end and was a crucial player in Philadelphia’s 2017 Super Bowl run.
