Edey makes history with 30-20 double-double

Purdue’s Zach Edey put up the NCAA Tournament’s first 30-point, 20-rebound double-double in the 21st century as the top-seeded Boilermakers crushed No. 16 Grambling State 78-50 Friday night.

Edey’s 30 points and 21 boards hadn’t been matched since Maryland’s Joe Smith in 1995.

The reigning National Player of the Year put the team on his back to prevent another stunning March Madness loss. Last season, Purdue became the second No. 1 team ever to drop a contest to a 16-seed, falling to Fairleigh Dickinson.
