Kylian Mbappe fired Real Madrid into the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday, scoring a hat-trick to help the Spanish side beat Manchester City 3-1 and progress 6-3 on aggregate.
After scoring to kickstart Madrid’s dramatic first-leg victory, Mbappe scored again with a lobbed shot over Ederson four minutes into the return leg after Raul Asencio’s long-range pass split City’s defense.
The French striker tormented City’s defense with another two goals to ensure Madrid of a place in the next round, where last year’s winners will play rivals Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen. The draw for the round of 16, along with the quarterfinals and semifinals, takes place Friday.
