In another shakeup to their offense, the Royals optioned utilityman Cavan Biggio to Triple-A Omaha on Monday and selected outfielder John Rave to the roster ahead of their series opener against the Reds at Kauffman Stadium.
The swap gives Rave an opportunity he’s been waiting for since the Royals drafted him in the fifth round of the 2019 Draft out of Illinois State. He’s been at Triple-A for parts of the past three seasons and has dominated the level this year, hitting .301 with a .931 OPS, nine homers and 25 RBIs to go along with 17 stolen bases.
That has earned the 27-year-old a chance in the big leagues, and with the Royals struggling to score runs in any consistent manner, now was the time to give Rave a look. He was in the lineup Monday, batting sixth and playing right field.
