Arsenal reached an agreement in principle with Sporting CP on Sunday to sign Viktor Gyokeres for an initial €63.5-million fee, sources told David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The Portuguese club could receive an additional €10 million in bonuses, Ornstein added.
The Swedish striker didn’t report to preseason training with Sporting in an effort to push the deal through. He believed a gentleman’s agreement was in place with the Portuguese side, which allowed him to leave if a club arrived with an offer worth an initial €60 million. Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas reportedly prolonged negotiations with Arsenal to eclipse that amount but ultimately signed off on the deal.
