Venus Williams, 45, will return to Grand Slam singles at the 2025 US Open after a two-year absence, receiving a wild-card entry from the U.S. Tennis Association. She will be the oldest singles entrant at the tournament since Renée Richards in 1981. Williams, a two-time US Open singles champion (2000, 2001), also holds 14 women’s doubles and two mixed doubles Grand Slam titles.
Her last Grand Slam appearance was at the 2023 US Open, and she hasn’t won a singles match there since 2019. After surgery for uterine fibroids and over a year away from competition, Williams returned in July 2025, winning one singles match at the DC Open and becoming the oldest woman to win a tour-level singles match since Martina Navratilova in 2004.
In addition to singles, she will play mixed doubles on Aug. 19–20 with American Reilly Opelka. Other women’s singles wild cards include Clervie Ngounoue, Julieta Pareja, Caty McNally, Valerie Glozman, Alyssa Ahn, Caroline Garcia, and Talia Gibson. Men’s singles wild cards went to Brandon Holt, Nishesh Basavareddy, Tristan Boyer, Emilio Nava, Stefan Dostanic, Darwin Blanch, Valentin Royer, and Tristan Schoolkate.
