Notre Dame has named CJ Carr as starting quarterback for their Week 1 matchup against Miami, the team announced Tuesday.
The redshirt freshman beat out Kenny Minchey for the position. Head coach Marcus Freeman said in the spring that Carr and Minchey would battle for the starting signal-caller job at camp.
Carr was an ESPN 300 four-star recruit in the 2024 class and the second-ranked pocket passer behind Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola. The 19-year-old is listed at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds.
