Fan favorite Tommy DeVito, the only quarterback who entered the 2025 preseason with past experience on the New York Giants roster, was waived by Big Blue on Tuesday, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported, per sources.
With 10-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson pegged as the Giants’ starter, fellow veteran free-agent addition Jameis Winston listed as No. 2 on the depth chart and rookie first-round draft choice Jaxson Dart having turned in a stellar preseason, DeVito was the odd man out.
It’s rare for teams to carry four quarterbacks on a 53-man roster, so DeVito’s release isn’t all that surprising. It also wouldn’t be a surprise if he rejoins New York on the practice squad if he isn’t picked up by another team.
If Thursday’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots was DeVito’s last showing with the G-Men, it was a memorable exit. DeVito threw for three touchdowns in the Giants’ 42-10 win, completing 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards.
