Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Joe Alt will undergo season-ending ankle surgery, the team announced Monday.
Alt, who battled a high ankle sprain earlier this season, left Sunday’s win over the Tennessee Titans early with another ankle injury.
Alt suffered a high ankle sprain again Sunday, and the issue requires a surgical procedure to repair, according to ESPN’s Kris Rhim and Adam Schefter.
The 22-year-old’s injury is a huge blow to the Chargers’ offense. A projected right tackle in the offseason, Alt moved to left tackle this campaign after two-time Pro Bowler Rashawn Slater sustained a torn patellar tendon in August.
