Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga demanded a trade Thursday, the day he became eligible to be moved, sources told ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania.
Kuminga couldn’t be traded until Jan. 15 due to the two-year, $48.5-million contract he signed last September following an extended period of negotiations.
The structure of the deal further damaged Kuminga’s relationship with Warriors management, Slater and Charania added. The former No. 7 overall pick reportedly wanted a player option on his new contract but received a team option instead.
Golden State head coach Steve Kerr, the team’s veterans, and Kuminga agree that a trade before the Feb. 5 deadline would be best for all parties, sources told Slater and Charania.
