The Toronto Blue Jays are re-signing veteran starter Max Scherzer to a one-year pact with a $3-million base salary that’s worth up to $10 million in incentives, reports Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.
Scherzer is expected to be in the Blue Jays camp this weekend and has already been throwing bullpen sessions, manager John Schneider said, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.
The 41-year-old reportedly still needs to pass his physical.
Scherzer posted a 5.19 ERA in 17 starts for the Blue Jays last season. He showed flashes of previous form late in the campaign when he authored a 3.34 ERA in six August starts.
