The Las Vegas Raiders plan to release quarterback Geno Smith at the start of the new league year barring a trade, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Las Vegas will create $8 million in salary-cap space by parting ways with the 35-year-old and will take on $18.5 million in dead money, Schefter adds.
Smith will enter free agency a year after the Raiders acquired the two-time Pro Bowler in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. Las Vegas signed him to a two-year extension shortly afterward.
