The Atlanta Falcons are making a strong push to sign quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, with the Miami Dolphins set to release him Wednesday as the new league year begins, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
The Falcons are in quarterback limbo as Michael Penix Jr. recovers from a torn ACL, which could keep him sidelined to begin the 2026 season.
The Dolphins announced Monday that they’ll cut Tagovailoa, whom they drafted fifth overall in 2020, after six seasons. The team will reportedly designate him a post-June 1 cut, spreading his $99-million cap hit over the next two seasons.
Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards (4,624) in 2023 and helped Miami reach the playoffs twice during his tenure, though the Dolphins failed to win any postseason games. He finished the 2025 campaign on the bench after throwing 15 interceptions in 14 appearances.
