Sioux City officials and family members announced that former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman was laid to rest in Northwest Iowa a year ago.
Family members say Foreman never forgot Iowa following a trip to the region in 1988, later saying he wanted to be buried in the state. According to his family, Foreman often spoke of the area’s landscape, including the Loess Hills, and the sense of peace he felt during that visit.
Honoring his request, Foreman’s family says they traveled from Texas and laid him to rest at Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City on April 17, 2025. A place overlooking the Loess Hills and near Stone State Park.
“They said when they arrived, they immediately understood,” a family representative said. “It looked exactly like he described.”
