RJ Luis is returning to college basketball for the 2026โ27 season after spending a year in professional basketball. He has signed with LSU Tigers men’s basketball, although his eligibility remains uncertain.
Luis played three college seasons, including two at St. John’s Red Storm men’s basketball, where he won Big East Player of the Year honors in 2024โ25 after averaging 18.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. He entered the NBA Draft and transfer portal after that season, went undrafted, signed with the Utah Jazz, and later spent time with the Boston Celtics organization and its G League affiliate.
Luis currently lacks NCAA eligibility but is expected to pursue legal action that could allow him to play, as ongoing discussions around age-based eligibility and athlete return pathways continue. A successful ruling would give LSU a major talent boost as coach Will Wade returns to the program, which has struggled in recent seasons and missed the NCAA Tournament since 2021.
