Lionel Messi returned to South Florida from Argentina early Wednesday morning and 12 hours later was on the game roster for the Leagues Cup match against Mexican club Leon at Nu Stadium.
He was listed as an available substitute for the third and final group stage game of the tournament as Inter Miami was fighting to stay alive, needing to win by a large margin and hoping several teams above them lost.
