Big Ten announces football to resume October 24

Posted on September 16, 2020September 16, 2020 by Santiago Leon

The Big Ten announced Wednesday that the football season will resume the weekend of Oct. 24.

The league’s entire council of presidents and chancellors met for several hours Sunday afternoon with members of the return-to-competition task force, which plans for scheduling and television. The Big Ten medical subcommittee reviewed the latest medical information about a safe resumption of play during the coronavirus pandemic, and the task force also met Saturday with eight presidents or chancellors, including Nebraska chancellor Ronnie Green.

“Everyone associated with the Big Ten should be very proud of the groundbreaking steps that are now being taken to better protect the health and safety of the student-athletes and surrounding communities,” said Dr. Jim Borchers, who co-chaired the medical subcommittee of the Big Ten’s Return to Competition Task Force. The earliest a positive-testing player could return to competition is 21 days.
