The San Francisco 49ers and wide receiver Jauan Jennings agreed to add $3 million in play-time incentives to his 2025 contract, raising his potential earnings this season to $10.5 million. Jennings, entering the final year of a two-year deal, will become an unrestricted free agent after the season since no long-term extension has been reached.
Jennings returned to practice this week after missing training camp and preseason with a calf injury, which has since healed. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Jennings will be ready for Sunday’s opener against the Seahawks and emphasized how much the team values him.
The contract adjustment comes after Jennings previously requested a trade, but the 49ers made clear they had no plans to deal him. The move follows a familiar pattern where the Niners have modified deals for players in similar situations. Jennings is coming off a career-best 2024 season with 77 catches, 975 yards, and six touchdowns, and is also praised for his blocking.
Alongside Jennings’ return, the 49ers signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the active roster and re-signed Russell Gage Jr. to the practice squad, both expected to be active against Seattle.
