Rory McIlroy won the Irish Open on the third playoff hole over Joakim Lagergren on Sunday for his 20th career DP World Tour victory.
The occasion marks the second time McIlroy has claimed the Irish Open in his storied career, with the last coming in 2016.
“I feel just so lucky that I get to do this, I get to do this in front of these people,” McIlroy said at The K Club following the round while being serenaded by the patrons. “The support has been absolutely amazing all week.”
He added: “I love coming home, I love playing in this atmosphere. Moments like this, these are the things you’re going to remember well after your career is over. This is a really special day.”
McIlroy tied Lagergren on the 72nd hole with an electrifying 28-foot eagle putt to send the crowd into a frenzy.
