Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman will be returning to free agency in the offseason.
Bregman will opt out of the final two years and $80 million left ($40 million deferred) on his contract after agreeing to a three-year, $120-million pact to join the Red Sox in February, sources told Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The 31-year-old won’t have a qualifying offer attached to him this time around, which could create more potential suitors. The Red Sox forfeited their second-highest 2025 draft pick (No. 54 overall) and $500,000 in international bonus pool money after signing him.
