Penn State has zeroed in on Iowa State’s head coach Matt Campbell in its coaching search, sources told ESPN’s Max Olson, Pete Thamel, and Adam Rittenberg.
There is mutual interest between the two parties, and Campbell is expected to meet with Penn State, the ESPN staff adds.
Penn State has been looking for a new head coach since firing James Franklin in October. The Nittany Lions reportedly were targeting BYU coach Kalani Sitake before he signed an extension with the Cougars earlier this week. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer also had his name floated in rumors surrounding the Penn State opening, but he dismissed any interest Thursday.
