The United States drew a favorable Group D for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where it will face Paraguay, Australia, and the winner of a UEFA playoff involving Türkiye, Romania, Slovakia, and Kosovo. As co-hosts, the U.S. were seeded in Pot 1 and avoided top teams like Argentina, France, Brazil, and England. The Americans open the tournament against Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, then play Australia on June 19 in Seattle, and return to SoFi on June 25 for their final group match.
Mexico will open the tournament on June 11 in Mexico City against South Africa, while Canada begins June 12 in Toronto with a potential match vs. Italy pending playoffs. With 48 teams in the tournament, the top two teams in each group plus eight third-place teams advance to a 32-team knockout stage. FIFA also structured the draw so the top four ranked teams—Spain, Argentina, France, and England—cannot meet until the semifinals if they win their groups.
Defending champion Argentina received a favorable group, England drew a tough opener against Croatia, and France could face Germany as early as the round of 16. The full match schedule will be announced separately, and all quarterfinals and beyond will be played in the United States using 11 NFL stadiums.
