Eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers, who retired five years ago, will work out for the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday following Daniel Jones’ season-ending Achilles injury, sources told Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Indianapolis could look to sign him to its practice squad initially, Garafolo and Rapoport add. Rivers, who is now a grandfather, still has to decide if he’s willing to return to the NFL, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He just celebrated his 44th birthday Monday and hasn’t played in the NFL since 2020 when he was the Colts’ starting quarterback. He’s been coaching high school for the last half-decade.
Riley Leonard, who filled in for Jones on Sunday after the latter tore his Achilles, is dealing with a strained knee ligament and is considered week-to-week, a source told Schefter. Indy is reportedly uncertain if he’ll be healthy enough to play against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15.
