Legendary head coach Bill Belichick won’t be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, sources told Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham of ESPN.
Belichick reportedly needed 40 out of 50 votes for induction but fell short this year. The voting took place earlier this month. The 73-year-old was “puzzled” and “disappointed” by the Hall of Fame committee members’ decision, sources told Van Natta and Wickersham.
Belichick is viewed by many as the greatest coach in NFL history. He helped the New England Patriots win six Super Bowls as a head coach after claiming two Lombardi Trophies as a New York Giants assistant.
