Carlos Alcaraz pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and retain his French Open title on Sunday, roaring back after dropping the first two sets to claim an astonishing 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) victory that took well over five hours and will long be remembered.
The Spaniard, 22, is now a perfect 5-0 in Grand Slam finals.
Alcaraz saved triple championship point in the fourth set on his own serve, and then broke the usually unflappable Italian before taking the set in a tiebreaker. He took his game to another level in the fifth-set tiebreaker to overwhelm Sinner and complete the epic recovery on Court Philippe-Chatrier, clinching the trophy with a brilliant forehand winner down the line at full stretch.
