The 2025 edition of the Gold Cup has seen a noticeable drop in attendance, particularly at matches involving the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) and Mexico. While the tournament continues to attract dedicated fans and solid TV viewership, in-stadium turnout has not matched the levels seen just two years ago.
For the USMNT, crowd sizes at this year’s group stage games fell short of 2023 figures. The U.S. drew approximately:
- 12,000 fans in their opening match,
- 11,000 fans in the second match,
- •21,000 fans in the third match.
This is a stark contrast to the 2023 Gold Cup, where the USMNT attracted:
- 36,000 fans in their first game,
- 21,000 fans in the second game,
- 47,000 fans in the third game.
Notably, the USMNT fielded a “B” team in the 2023 tournament — a squad distinct from the side that had just claimed the Nations League title earlier that summer.
Mexico, traditionally a massive draw at Gold Cup venues, also experienced a drop in attendance. After the group stage:
- In 2023, Mexico averaged 53,000 fans per game.
- In 2025, that number declined to an average of 47,000 fans.
Despite the reduced stadium figures, fan engagement remains strong on television. The USMNT’s recent match against Haiti drew 1.2 million viewers on FOX — a respectable audience given the circumstances.
The reasons behind the attendance dip could include a mix of factors, such as fixture locations, ticket prices, roster selections, or general tournament fatigue. Nevertheless, the Gold Cup continues to command attention from fans across the region, both in stadiums and on screens.
