Unfortunately for the Alabama Crimson Tide, they may be losing a former 5-Star player who has been a bit of a mystery as of late. Antonio Alfano has been absent from practices as well as classes this fall. Until now, not much light has been shed on the whereabouts of Antonio or the “why” behind it. However, news surfaced today from Alfano’s father, Frankie-Hilda Alfano via Twitter.
According to his father, Antonio’s grandmother has become gravely ill and her life is hanging in the balance. He goes on to reveal that his son has a very close relationship with her and the situation has affected him greatly. It has caused him to step back from his life at the Capstone and focus more on what matters most.
Frankie provided a very long and informative thread on his Twitter account to provide as much detail as possible about the situation. As he goes on, he speaks on the incredible support shown by the University of Alabama and its football program for Antonio as well as the family at this time. With that, he also made it known to all that Antonio Alfano has now entered the transfer portal to possibly explore other options. Maybe these options would afford him the opportunity to be closer to his ailing grandmother.
Even though Antonio has entered the portal, he could ultimately decide to remain with the Crimson Tide. That is the hope of all who are a part of the Crimson Tide faithful. Other than being a 5-Star, Antonio showed great promise in the spring after enrolling early. He was a force not only in practice but also in the A-Day game. He accumulated 2 sacks in the contest.
Many would like to see him remain in Tuscaloosa, including his father. However, the decision, as his father said, is ultimately Antonio’s and everyone wants what is best for him. So, keep Antonio, his grandmother, and family in your prayers. May they soon experience the joy that comes in the morning.
