Well, today is the National Signing Day. There’s actually two national signing days with college football, actually through college athletics in general but we’re talking to stickler about college football. That Today is the second signing is the original signing day. It was always held on the first Wednesday of February. We have already had early signing day and that was in December. I think it was December 19. Through the 21st. If I remember correctly,

Yeah, and honestly, that has become the signing day. You know, every single year more guys sign I think this year of potential sinese 76% signed in the early signing period, I think last year was 70. And the year before was like 64. So every single year more guys sign in the early so most of

the rosters are filled by then.

Yeah, it’d be I mean, there is several teams of a talk about the teams obviously. But there is several teams that didn’t add one guy today. There is several there’s Yeah, I mean, so Alabama, did. Alabama did it. What did they so um, Clemson didn’t Yeah.

So what’s the difference between the player signing today right there in December. You just didn’t make up his mind back In December like what’s Yes.

Yeah either didn’t didn’t feel comfortable yet he hadn’t made up made up his mind. That’s, that’s one another one is, in some cases, maybe a guy wasn’t recruited by enough people and he waited to see it better people would recruit him and it’s happened on there every single year. There’s a guy that kind of comes under the radar that really wasn’t on anyone’s radar for the early signing period. But all of a sudden, some teams are looking to fill the last couple spots and they’re like, Oh, look at this kid. So and it’s some three star guy and that happened several times. So either kids had made up their mind or someone under the radar kid becomes available.

Okay, let’s go by conference by conference. Do you want to start with worst to best like big 12 and on

Oh, yeah, yeah, or, or, ma’am, we’re gonna start off with the SEC did

okay. It’s two sec. News sec. There a lot are in the top 10 Tyler shoot away.

Oh my gosh, sec. Just a remarkable Signing Day. They had seven teams and 247 composite top 10 you had the number one team Georgia number two team Alabama number 14 LSU number 16. Texas a&m number 17. Auburn number 18, Florida number 10. Team Tennessee, you also had number eight and number 18. You had South Carolina. I believe Kentucky was number 2425. So you had total in the top 25. You had seven in the top 10. And you had nine and the top 25. So to say the least. And of the there’s 31 composite five stars. 52 of them. Well, sorry, George birch hasn’t signed yet. 14 of them on 14 of them are from the SEC, and only 15 other guys went to other conferences. So the SEC had and Zachary Evans who’s a composite five star is not going to be signing right Now, so basically half the composite five stars and 247 with one conference and that’s the SEC conference. It’s fair to say that the SEC, absolutely dominated on Signing Day this year. And when I do my teen talent formula, which I did last year, I would expect to see I would expect to see seven sec teams with top 515 baseline talent college football on the rosters.

Has this been the best sec performance when it comes to recruiting in any other years? You’ve seen? Like this is like like your best year yet?

Tyler Turner
Oh, yeah, I’d actually say was the best year yet. And that’s saying a lot because I think in general, the SEC has been the dominant conference. They had had the number one recruiting team for the last. I don’t know I’m going off the top my head but probably for the last like eight to 10 years. And it was Florida and it was Alabama than it was Georgia, the only other team that might have gotten No one in there was UFC right UFC I remember the Southern California Yeah Do you remember them?

but yeah but but yeah they used to be really good um but anyways yeah so Georgia This is Kirby smart doing some good things you got to talk about his class a little bit it’s his second top number one class in three years and last year he was number two he and the year before he was number three so four straight top three classes with to be number one it’s gonna be quality when I do my to California I’m kind of interested. I think Bama nips Georgia that I don’t know I think Georgia I get them it’s gonna be really close. They’re gonna be neck and neck for the most talented rosters and college football next year. He’s really good i mean he’s a former basketball player he career basketball player but he’s not gonna play basketball player at the collegiate level but he’s a tremendous athlete for guy size is well respected by the three recruiting sites.

yep. Good. Five stars. So five stars from Alabama, Bryce young. The number two Player rated in the country. He’s phenomenal. What play for Mater Dei in California? Absolutely. Just a tremendous quarterback. high IQ. Could we start with the Russians? Do it. Yeah, to be honest with you. And I’m saying this because I saw them both play at the opening on TV. I saw them both play at the all American game i saw i didn’t see to a play at St. Louis in high school, but I saw Bryce play at Mater Dei. I think at the same point, Bryce youngest better than to Adele veil and look what to a dead. So I think rice is either Bryce’s baby that the best quarterback I think Bryce is actually a better quarterback than Trevor Ward’s and just a deal. Yeah, I take Bryce’s to the reality, the best quarterback Come on last five years, I’ll be honest. Okay, so, so like after drooling over Bryce young. I’ll go on to Kaylee Rango for Georgia. Just a fun athlete a cornerback. He’s maybe fifth rated player. just tremendous. Who’s awesome at the all American game. Number six is Eric Gilbert tight end for LSU absolute stud was supposed to go to Bama. Every expert hadn’t predicted to go to Alabama. And he shocked everyone by going to LSU that was considered a bad guy. So a big victory there by LSU. That happened a Bama a couple times by the latest cycle. And I’ll talk about another guy later that to happen to I’m trying to my not his brother Jones who talked about him. He’s tremendous. Carter for Georgia, the top top 10 guy this year. He’s a super good defensive guy on that set. Is it Sanders, something Sanders for Alabama, he played tight end and outside linebacker six five to 35. He runs a sub 11 100 Phenomenal tickets from getting dire dire taxes but this kid Tracy tremendous he’s a great no it’s Andre Sanders because great Sanders the running back on the wrong it’s Google. Yeah he’s uh if you go if you go to the two fours you’d have to go to four seven composite hold on I’ll pull it up either

The clips I saw him at the all American game. I he’s not as good as you can get for that kind of five tech guy. I love that get by Florida I think Florida Like I said, I think Ford has done some good things on the trail. I mean, sure. Jordan birches, the number eighth rated player this cycle is an absolute stud, a just a guy that’s athletic enough to play outside despite being 65 to 75. I think he’s going to South Carolina, but we were talking about this off air. He has not sent his letter of intent yet. I know he was seriously considered LSU he took an official visit there last week. decided on the fact that it’s Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Everyone wants Jordan. Okay. Oh, my goodness. Good, too. Yeah. So now number three is a ray player. So I the I don’t know that he hasn’t said that and yet definitely means he’s thinking about something so I wouldn’t love that. Road it out, like Willie understand as a five star that we’re talking about. He showed up really good. I saw him like I didn’t think he’s a five star before, but he ended up becoming a five star in the end CRISPR as well. We started the end. Good at you know another great athlete guy that’s going to Bama. I like Jalen Jones guy. He’s a big he’s a safety you can play corner people created at Under Armour all American game. He’s going to Texas a&m. desmet deivis this kid phenomenal athlete. I’m talking about like you did a competition at the Polynesian bowl and he leaked over like five guys and dumped over the goalpost. What a guy. Yeah, I could see that he could have a little bit Jalen waddle. I don’t know the wide receiver for Alabama. that’s a that’s a fair way.

Oh, yeah. Texas a&m would number six. And like I said, Zack Evans has not signed he’s a five star. He has not signed with anyone. He will get on someone’s roster. He’s currently Number, get this right 16 rated player in the country. So he’s gonna be he’s gonna boost this composite score of one roster. Where is he gonna go? Could be Texas a&m. Could be Florida might be Tennessee could be oldness it’s probably going to be in the sec. I think those are the four teams that are most talked about, but you just never know if I was gonna go to Georgia, he actually signed a letter of intent with Georgia. But then he asked out of his letter of intent. I don’t think he had that the Georgia because of that shenanigans, I would lean call call it a hunch from what I hear he’s all over the place. I think he will end up staying at Texas a&m. If they get him they will be like up there with it is probably the top five would be pretty So yeah, overall Ohio State, Ohio State so great year by a great class by LSU. Again, another great class like Bama, Georgia takes the torch again. There. Keep on getting town. It but you can’t overlook what Jeromy Pruitt did a tendency to land the top 10 class you can overlook Auburn guffman dominate the number seven class. But he landed the number seven class and that’s what when they talk about firing certain coaches like a gmail.or a Jeromy Pruitt or someone like that I’m like you realize they have to play these insanely talented rosters like Alabama, Georgia LSU. It is so tough to win in the sec and also look to you you can have a top 10 talented roster and only be number five or number six in the whole sec.

Yeah, so recruiting at that level in the SEC is it’s it’s just it does not mean as much the results will not necessarily follow because you might have a talent roster but you might be playing a team with more talented roster but as a whole PC dominated so I guess we move on to the next show but

we got talking about Tennessee. I mean there were a big surprise in my opinion for us to see what what’s going on in Tennessee.

Tyler Turner
You know he’s a good recruiter, Tennessee has always recruited pretty well and the Butch Jones recruited a top 10 level. So you know, Jerry Pruitt landed the 13th grade class last year the number 10 rated class this year. He I mean, he added some really really stud players I love Malika Weidman Oregon wanted to get him in the end but he ended up flipping from Florida State to Tennessee. That’s a great pickup by them. Harrison Bailey is a consensus four star top 100 quarterback and a terrific player. But keshawn Lawrence and the safety from the Nashville area omaree content is another guy from the Nashville area. He’s doing good job in state. He’s getting bids take kids to come there, and he’s stealing some good guys nationally. He did good things. Like I said top 10 classes here. He probably will have a top 15 Talent roster going in to next year. It’s good that he’s you know, he’s an SEC there’s teams with better teams but it’s good job that Jimmy burrows doing out there.

clemson oh okay come to dominate. Clubs. It ended up landed number three class they had five, five stars. I mean these kids that they landed Brian breezy the number one player in the country defensive tackles absolute stud. DJ, Google auto a quarterback consensus five star top 10 guy. I like young better, but ooodle ooodle I said David awful. But he’s he’s 65 245 pounds. He’s the prototypical quarterback size rocket arm. He has everything you’d look for in a quarterback. I like young, a little bit better. Alex to he’s a little better, but you’ve got your DJ us great. Myles Murphy is a top 10 guy at defensive end Marcus Bolden is a five star running back Trenton since it is a five star linebacker overall just a phenomenal class. I think it’s 11 Top 100 guys five five stars number three class in the country. I love what Clemson did. Oh your guys Miami.

Yeah second best class in the conference. Oh my god. They landed. They landed Avante Williams. Yep. They finished 13 nationally so top 50 class Yes. All the landed avant avanti. Williams was a longtime Oregon commit. He committed everyone and their dog had him going to Florida. He picks the hurricane. I remember that. Yeah. Yeah, huge victory. By my main ideas.

Well yeah, I mean it’s too much I did 11 transfers in two years is a little overkill. Now I do like Dr. King he’s good in that row che the defensive end from temple is a great player so a little better this year and he landed two better guys in the prep ranks. It was a better year for for Miami, Florida. Sorry, North Carolina was third North Carolina ended up having a top 20 class landed at number 19. Some good guys. Desmond Evans was a guy that five star by ESPN. The rankings are kind of crappy, but that’s okay. Yeah, Josh downs is a terrific wide receiver. I’ve heard a lot of good things about him. They’ve several other good guys on there Myles Murphy. So they definitely top 20 class and then top 25 to finish it off in the ACC Florida State. Not a bad job by Mike Norville. He did lose alika Weidman his second highest rated recruit the four star wide receiver, but he did pretty well. I like when Mike Norville did a you know he did the best he could come in and so now the early signing day yeah early Signing Day kills early new coaches So good job by Norville who do a good job there. And Georgia Tech number 26. I think they deserve a shout out. They’ve been horse crap for years. But Jeff Collins is doing a good some good things on the recruiting trail. I jayveer Gibbs top 100 running back, Adidas, all American absolute stud. I like the class by Georgia Tech. And that’s pretty much the ACC I don’t really have a good beat. I don’t have a good beat on anyone else. So

Let’s do it. Let’s do Ohio State How does the State deal

number five great class. Their wide receiver class they landed the number four player in the country Julian filling in the landed the number 20 player in the company in recovery. The country in Jackson Smith and the Goblin hit tough name again. And they also added a top 100 receiver in G Scott. And they landed a five star by 247 and CJ Strout at quarterback. So, quarterback, three elite wide receivers. I’m gonna give you a little thing. Ohio State’s going to continue to be very good underwriting days off at the end. They also landed the number one tackle in the nation and the number nine player overall Paris Johnson Jr. So offensively, Iowa State is going to continue to be extremely good. They all only have a great offensive mind as a head coach, but they’re getting some super talented players. Now defensively I didn’t look at Ohio State the last two years defensively they have not quite landed at least the talent they’re landing before. Now they still got a lot of good guys on the roster. But remember, they do lose KCM they did lose Jeffrey Okuda. They did lose David Arnett they did lose on Blake Harrison, so they lost some really good defensive guys. They have guys like Shawn Wade and Brett bear browning and and total guy blade. I can’t say his name correctly, but the tackle. They have some good guys on defense, but they’re probably going to have to do pretty good on the cycle next year on the defensive side of the ball. They’re really heavily slanted the last two sides to cycle they have really all the talents that on the offense and sometimes it’s a good trend, but they’re going to continue to be good. This kid at Penn State both finished inside the top 1514 and 15 you know, Michigan related to good players but they actually did land any straight, delayed adult they didn’t land any top 100 players. So it was a good class was the number 14 grade class but no five stars no top 100 players. I you know what it’s gonna be it’s gonna be hard to beat Ohio State when you don’t get that elite talent so it can be hard. Penn State. Penn State that today Do they lost Justin shorter? They also lost Isaac Slade a couple of five stars and they lost a couple of four stars. They have had some guys in the program on a lie Exactly. As far as this year our five star by 247 he was a composite top 100 Top 50 player Curtis Jacobs outside linebacker he’s a really good player he is to Jonathan the tight ends a good player. They landed a bunch of solid four stars. Once again. I would say Penn State and Michigan are definitely definitely behind Ohio State on it. I don’t think they’re going to like the highest state I have the page off right now. But they landed like six seven top 100 guys, Michigan landed done today landed to Ohio State landed three five stars that Penn State landed zero Michigan landed zero. I think Michigan at Penn State will continue to be good. I just don’t think that they really will have the guys to compete on a regular basis. You know, it’s a hard thing. To finish off braska had a top 20 class blue and blue chip 10 blue chippers a couple top 100. Guys, actually Nebraska class was fairly similar to Michigan State I would say there’s a draft. So the Wisconsin had a top 25 class so a good class oh god and they landed I think a couple top 100 linemen shocking. A big you know, like it’s a four star running back so Scott’s in Nebraska and a good classes. I think Wisconsin Nebraska was a good development they can definitely start to compete. Well, Wisconsin already has but even Nebraska they can start developing guys they could compete with like a Penn State and Michigan. Ohio State and just a little bit out.

way far north Ohio State. Yep. So we got Ohio State. Again, Penn State Nebraska and Wisconsin at the top five think goes Maryland, Purdue, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State. Talk about Michigan State.

Yeah, I mean, that affected the recruiting class. Now they have to go higher. Yeah, they have to hire someone. I don’t know what eventually. Obviously your head coach.

No, no, no, sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Rob position. Anyways, Ohio State is is it is dominating as like similar to what Clemson’s doing in like in the ACC.

Yeah. So like, Okay, so in the sec. There’s not as big of divide in the tears. We don’t get Alabama Georgia LSU. That’s probably a little head. But a&m, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee are still very good. There’s a lot like, I don’t believe that the big 10 will have any other top 10 talent rosters outside of Ohio State. And I don’t believe that Clemson, outside of Clemson there will be a top 10 talent roster in ACC. So there’s definitely a divide in a sec. Don’t expect Ohio State and Clemson to really know they’ll be the favorite in the foreseeable future.

Yeah. And honestly, the big 12 it kind of, you know, it’s a little similar. Um, it’s taxes in Oklahoma. And then, you know, there’s there’s everyone else so yeah, TCU and, but take us away back there. TC is probably third Baylor, Baylor fourth, but they’re there. They’re both outside the top 25 it’s definitely it’s definitely right now Oklahoma, who landed the number 11 class and actually Texas came out and landed some big guys Atlantic. a five star 247 a composite four star Alfred Jones. Sorry, offered Collins they landed him a couple hours ago. They also landed a covanta Dixon, I believe earlier this morning. So Texas Ward into the top 10. They took the top class, Oklahoma. Again, good class. I’m looking at Oklahoma class. One thing I’m worried about. Okay, so Oklahoma’s made the playoffs for the five years last five, right? Yeah. Um, but what what happened? Hey, you know, we had walked by LSU. They weren’t very competitive against Alabama. They played Georgia close, but then they got beat pretty good by Clemson. There’s struggled in particular the defense. I’ve looked at their last couple classes in defense is still not recruiting at a great level that we got an elite level. Yeah, it’s below like they’re landing top 100 receivers. They’re landing top 100 right back there. Atlanta top 100 quarterback so I have five star quarterback. They’re landing top end Five Star to top 100 offensive lineman defensively most of the guys are not needed to compete. Yeah, yeah they also had two or three blue chippers on the defensive side transfer out.

So this pattern is still continuing.

Yeah, actually like Texas is roster better. Now I don’t know what happened Texas last year they had injuries but still seven and five. And finishing tied for third. So good. I

do think they have a regime change in the big 12 now you think Texas will like will be the champion there or surely itself?

Tyler Turner
Texas okay. Texas and Oklahoma are close. Like if you compare the roster I think they’re both going to be inside the top 10 as far as talent, but I think Texas might be a little higher. A Texas might be like six world colon might be like eight. So just little just, it’s very little on I like Lincoln Riley at the coach better than Tom Herman. I think the result Prove it. He’s won five straight, big 12 titles he’s made for playoffs. He was himself has made three straight playoff appearance. I will trust Tom her. I’m sorry. Lincoln Riley more. I just think I probably liked some of the defensive talent better on Texas. And I like, like, I probably just like the overall talent like offense defense a little better on Texas. But if you’re going to ask me who would you pick to win the big 12? I’ll take Oklahoma. They’ve won five in a row. Yeah, they’ve won five in a row.

Oklahoma. Like I get an awful job. Yeah, that’s it. Yeah. TCU Baylor, West Virginia.

State I was state Texas Tech and stay Baylor. Kansas did not do well. It’s gonna be Texas. Oklahoma. Wasn’t too next year.

Yeah, yeah. Well, when it comes to talent now, Oklahoma State does a pretty good Job like it is a pretty good job to watch. Yeah, I met Matt Campbell’s a good coach at Iowa State. Gary Patterson is a good coach at TCU. You have to like Chris Klein and what he did. So there’s some good coaches remember, Texas had away talented roster last year, and they were seven and five. Right? So it doesn’t translate. I don’t receive text. Yeah, no, they have only one. Text is between the last two coaches over the last nine years. They have only won 10 games one. That’s not good. So Texas has not been very good. But if you’re going to talk about talent, they have it. They have enough talent to compete with a lot of it’s a coaching that’s the problem. It could be I guess, I’m yeah, I’m just saying. I’m not ready to throw the towel in Tom urban. Yeah, but we’ll see. We’ll get we’ll get this year. He’s 75 this year. Yeah, it’s done.

Well, he’s a great offensive play caller at Ohio State, but he was running urban Meyer’s offense and he was running urban Meyer’s recruited team. So yeah, we’ll see. We’ll see. Because, you know, talk like I remember I talked to Ryan White recently and the message he’s talking about Charlie strong, being a great DC at Florida, and I was like, sermon buyers head coach. Yeah, you know, like some guys, you might if you’re under good coach, you’re going to be good. Let’s see how you do when you’re not under them. So that is a tested with Tom Herman. So I don’t really have much more to say on the call on the big two. If I hadn’t had a highlight daily lead at one five star. What was john Robinson? Keep an eye on john Robbins. That’s a five star. Okay, so you’re Clemson landed pi, Ohio State land free Oh Does anyone else play Oregon land in 335 world number number six rated player Justin flow number 13 rated player playing the same position both linebackers Noah school and the number of 32 threads were quarterback Dante nannied, the Oregon three five stars and it’s hot I tell you what, Oregon I know honestly to organize roster but what Derek crystal balls done four or five stars over the last two cycles. we’ve landed eight top 100 players he’s also had two topics former top 100 players transfer into the program. Here’s the roster. Increase and talent is phenomenal by barrier festival. And he when he took over it was like 28% blue chip talent. Now it’s 46% blue chip talent. He had 100 guys when he first took over the roster now he has 14 he had no five stars. Now he has for me as a recruiter. People question it didn’t gave management on a question is in game management, but as a recruiter, he’s as good as he is as good as anyone and he’s dominating the PAC 12 is that second straight number one class. His three year average is at the top 10. He was the elite 11 guy Yogi Ross, who covers the PAC 12 and runs the elite 11 actually said he was the third best quarterback of the 2018 cycle behind Trevor Lawrence and Justin fields. I’m not gonna say it’s gonna be better than Herbert Let’s just say if he ends up being a little more if he ends up being a little more efficient during a college career, I would not be surprised. So from what I’ve seen, he does not all completely and but it’s the real side is you’re gonna want to look at the defense. Remember or remember remember you don’t remember it now remember Oregon finished with a top 10 defense last year. They were number eight and defensive efficiency according to the ESPN metric. Well, defensively they return nine of 11 starters. They returned five of their six top tacklers. They returned the three leading sack guys. They returned the starting quarterback so we’re starting a couple starting defensive linemen and they’re bringing in three five stars on defense and Justin flow Noah Sewell and Dante nanny, defensively is where Oregon i i’d be shocked that they’re not a top five unit next year, defensively. offensively it’s going to be a little more of a slow mo but remember they hired Joe Morehead. Joe Morehead was innovative head coach, innovative offensive coordinator of 10 states that ended up getting the Mississippi State head coaching job. So they hired him, which is a big upgrade at the OC position. If he could get some of these young talented wide receivers going, you know, you’re bringing back your two leading rushers back to back 1000 yard rusher, TJ for Dell, and you bring back take your two toppling receivers and several other young guys that played the offense could do some good things. And if that offense could just even be as good as last year maybe a little better be a top 20 unit to go along with a top five defense. I the only team. Ohio State’s a tough game. Ohio State Yeah, it’s at Eugene. Okay get good at Eugene. Yeah, okay. The Oregon over the last time I did it. The other day was like over the last you haven’t 11 years or 67 and 10 at home. They’re 13 and one at home under Mario Cristobal. They’re very good at home. And that’s going to be allowed a gorgeous place that gives Oregon advantage. I would say on paper, I still like Ohio State’s roster better. But the home field advantage. But other than that game, I’m not detected the losing the other game. They play USC at home, they play Washington at home, they play Arizona state at home. And those are only three teams that have enough talent to really compete. And they play some tricky road games. Like it gets a Washington State against an Arizona against Colorado. But those teams aren’t very good. But could they beat them? Yes, they I mean they almost lost a couple games this year two teams that were not as good so I think if I was going to just guess right now I think Oregon’s about 11 one. I right now cannot talk myself into the beating Ohio State but other than That weapon in one if they win the PAC 12 at 12am they go 12 and one only losses to Ohio State who probably will be a top four team. They probably would.

Oh, good. You know, I’m sitting here. bloviating bragging about Oregon’s class and it was phenomenal. But Washington landed the number 16 rated class. It’s the third straight year Washington is landed. They landed a 16 number 16 class in 2018. Number 15. Last year, number 16. This year they’re recruiting that about. Washington does have enough talent and play to be the one team that can contend against Oregon. Now Washington was blocked they lost a starting quarterback to started running back or two main receivers. They also lost her head coach, Chris Peterson retired fire below cnn So they do have some coaching turnover and replacing guy to the key position. But as a whole Washington is the one team that and they landed enough top 100 guys and it did a lot. Six on the roster they have a five star on the roster that I think that they could compete with Oregon, as opposed to the rest of the conference, which is quite a ways behind.
