The 76ers have fire head coach Brett Brown after 7 seasons. This is expected after the Philadelphia was swept in the first round by the Boston Celtics. For now the 76ers will go forward with Elton Brand as the GM. Philadelphia wants to keep both young stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. The plan is to find a new coaching staff that can maximize Simmons and Embiid before thinking about trades. This was Philadelphia third playoff appearance under Brown but the loss of Simmons to a knee injury and surgery gave them very little of a change to compete with the Celtics.
Brown is still owed several millions of dollars on his contract. Many believe they will hire Los Angeles Clippers assistant Ty Lue. Lue won a championship in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he has the ability to challenge and command the best from the young Philadelphia 76ers team. Lue is a respected coach around the league, and with his experience coaching high level talent he could be the front runner for the job.Another possibility would be Villanova two time national champion coach Jay Wright.
Of course the 76ers will look at more opinions besides those two candidates. But Lue does fit the profile of what the 76ers need out of a head coach, and there’s not a ton of coaches with the experience of coaching high level NBA talent, and have championship experience. The Sixers are look for a coach that can get them past the Eastern Conference Finals, and into the NBA Finals but for that to happen they need someone who can develop their two young stars. Brown was a respected coach around the league for coming up with the Process, but now the Process is over. It’s time for bigger and better things in Philadelphia.
