Battling Salzburg held a disjointed Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League on Wednesday, severely denting the 2021 winners’ chances of qualifying from Group E.
Raheem Sterling put the London side ahead in the 48th minute, latching on to a low cross from Mason Mount and shooting beyond the diving Philipp Kohn into the left corner of his net.
It was his first Champions League goal in Chelsea colours and the first goal under new coach Graham Potter, who took over last week following the shock dismissal of Thomas Tuchel.
RB Salzburg’s Christoph Freund is one of the main names on Chelsea list for the new director role, not the only one. Contacts positive — talks still ongoing with candidates. 🚨🔵 #CFC
Final decision expected in the next weeks, as Boehly wants a new director as soon as possible. pic.twitter.com/6O2gvOC2IZ

My understanding on Chelsea’s new sporting director is talks with Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund are already pretty advanced. Todd Boehly is a big fan of the Red Bull model. He’s currently ahead of Monaco’s Paul Mitchell, who really wants the job, too.
