Kemba Walker is nearing a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, Marc Stein reports. The team is “in advanced talks” with the point guard, Stein says, and a contract could be signed this week.
Walker has not played a game since Feb. 16. A week later, Walker and the Knicks agreed he would not play the rest of the season after dealing with knee issues.
All the hype surrounding the four-time All-Star’s homecoming didn’t materialize into a significant boost for the Knicks. While he had his moments — including a triple-double in a Christmas Day win over the Hawks — ultimately Walker averaged 11.6 points and 3.5 assists in 37 games, the lowest averages of his career. His 40.3 shooting percentage was also his lowest since 2014-15.
