The new pro football leagues XFL and USFL will adopt a new rule for fumbles that exit the end zone.
The current NFL rule is if a fumble in the field of play exits the end zone, it’s ruled a turnover and the defense gets the ball at its own 20-yard line.
With the new XFL/USFL rule, a fumble in the field of play exits the end zone, possession reverts to the offense at the spot of the fumble.
The XFL season kicks off on Saturday. The USFL season begins on April 15.
