The No. 7 seed Virginia (50-14) fell to the No. 2 seed Florida (51-15) 6-5 after the Gators mounted a three-run come back in the ninth inning to secure the win.
The Gators hit two solo home runs to set up the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Virginia head coach Brian O’Connor brought on Jay Woolfolk in relief for Jake Berry to face bases loaded, however, Luke Heyman hit a line drive to center field and even though Ethan O’Donnell makes the catch but Jac Caglianone is able to score from third for a walk-off sacrifice fly.
The Cavaliers will have to win four games in a row in order to advance to the College World Series Finals. Virginia will face TCU in an elimination game on Sunday. First pitch is set for at 2 p.m. eastern.
