The NCAA announced Wednesday it suspended Memphis coach Penny Hardaway three games to begin the 2023-24 season for recruiting violations committed during the 2021-22 academic year.
In the midst of the season, Memphis coaches participated in two “impermissible” in-home recruiting visits with a prospect during his junior year of high school, according to a decision released by a Division I Committee on Infractions panel.
Due to his involvement in the violations and failure to monitor his staff, the ruling deemed that Hardaway also violated head coach responsibility rules.
