Cleveland Cavaliers and Spanish national team guard Ricky Rubio will take a break from basketball to focus on his mental health, he announced in a statement via FEB.
“I have decided to stop my professional activity to take care of my mental health,” Rubio wrote. “I want to thank all the support I have received from the FEB for understanding my decision. Today, #Family makes more sense than ever. Thank you. I ask that my privacy is respected to be able to face these moments and to be able to give more information when the time is right.”
A spokesperson for the Spanish national team said Rubio won’t be on the 12-man roster when it’s named later this month, according to NBC Sports.
