TCU changed many of its play-call signals ahead of its College Football Playoff game against Michigan last year after coaches from several Big-10 schools tipped the team off to the Wolverines’ sign-stealing scheme, sources told Ross Dellinger of Yahoo Sports.
The Horned Frogs used “dummy signals” to fool Michigan, per Dellinger. Players were told to ignore the signs sent in from the sideline and stick with the original play.
“Sometimes we froze a play before the snap,” one TCU coach told Dellinger. “We’d call a play and then we’d signal in another play with an old signal but we told players to run the original play.”
