The CFP is embarking on the inaugural season of the 12-team playoff after initially having a four-team format since its inception in 2014. The expanded playoff will culminate in the College Football Playoff National Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Jan. 20.
The committee will select a field comprised of the five conference champions as well as the next seven highest-ranked teams.
