World Cup 2026 to use covered stadiums after hot weather concerns

Posted on July 12, 2025July 12, 2025 by Santiago Leon

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that roofed stadiums will be used during the 2026 Men’s World Cup to address concerns over extreme weather, following player complaints about heat during the Club World Cup in the U.S. Players, including Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández, reported feeling unwell due to high temperatures, with some matches reaching up to 96°F (35.5°C). Infantino said stadiums in cities like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Vancouver—with roofs and air conditioning—will help mitigate heat and thunderstorms.

He defended the expanded Club World Cup, saying many teams were happy to participate, and even some non-qualifying clubs requested inclusion. Despite criticism, he called the event a “huge success” and said improvements will be considered for future tournaments.

Infantino also confirmed that Donald Trump will attend Sunday’s final between PSG and Chelsea at MetLife Stadium, noting the former president’s support for soccer and the Club World Cup.
