Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis: Fight Rules, USADA Drug Testing, and What Fans Can Expect

Posted on August 25, 2025August 25, 2025 by Santiago Leon

Jake Paul is preparing to step into the ring against Gervonta “Tank” Davis on September 14, 2025, and this matchup is already making headlines for more than just the clash of personalities and styles. Paul, often accused of relying on performance-enhancing drugs, has announced that he will undergo strict random drug testing through the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) ahead of the bout.

Jake Paul Signs Up for USADA Drug Testing

Throughout his boxing career, Paul has faced criticism from detractors who allege that steroids fuel his success. Determined to silence those claims, “The Problem Child” confirmed in a recent YouTube video that he has enlisted USADA, the gold standard in anti-doping.

“Don’t worry, for all of you Karens who accuse me of being on steroids … we have the strictest drug testing possible for this match. USADA. Random drug tests at any moment,” Paul said.

USADA, best known for its tenure as the official anti-doping authority of the UFC from 2015 to 2024, is credited with drastically reducing PED use in mixed martial arts through its rigorous random testing system. Bringing USADA into this fight is a statement of credibility from Paul, even if some hardcore boxing fans still see his fights as more spectacle than sport.

Weight Class and Fight Rules

The most intriguing storyline surrounding Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis is the massive size disparity:

  • Jake Paul: Traditionally fights at cruiserweight (200 lbs) and has weighed as much as 227 lbs.
  • Gervonta Davis: A natural lightweight (135 lbs), with a career-high fight at 140 lbs.

Because of the difference, the bout is expected to be an exhibition fight, though Paul has suggested that the rules will closely mirror those of a professional contest:

  • Format: 10 rounds, three minutes each
  • Weight cap: Paul limited to 195 lbs
  • Davis: Required to come in as close to Paul’s weight as possible
  • Scoring: No official scorecards expected due to the exhibition tag

Why This Fight Matters

Even without official titles on the line, the fight has generated massive attention:

  • For Paul: A chance to shut down steroid rumors and prove his credibility with USADA oversight.
  • For Davis: An opportunity to test himself against a much larger opponent in a spectacle that could expand his fanbase.
  • For fans: A unique crossover bout blending entertainment and high-level boxing intrigue.
